Perched along the expansive shores of Quebec’s Lake Saint-Jean, The Cache is the latest project from Delordinaire Architects, developed in collaboration with Annie Sylvain Architects. This venture follows the acclaimed High House, a stilt residence unveiled in 2020, furthering the architects’ exploration of innovative residential design. With The Cache, Delordinaire presents a modular concept designed to integrate gracefully into the natural surroundings.

Design Philosophy and Inspiration
The Cache reflects Delordinaire’s architectural ethos, which emphasizes minimal intervention in natural environments. By adopting a stilt-supported structure, the design minimizes the need for extensive foundation work, preserving the topography while creating a sheltered outdoor area beneath the residence. This elevated framework not only respects the surrounding vegetation but also provides occupants with unparalleled views of the lake and its serene surroundings. The architects envisioned these modular homes as an extension of the environment, creating a harmonious dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Architectural Features
Each unit of The Cache spans 50 square meters and is clad in carefully treated larch wood, offering a contemporary aesthetic with clean, geometric lines. Prefabricated north of Montreal, the homes are transported to their final locations, reducing on-site construction impact. The modular design emphasizes flexibility, with the height and orientation of each dwelling tailored to maximize natural light and optimize scenic views. The living area serves as the centerpiece, featuring a large bay window that frames the stunning expanse of Lake Saint-Jean.

The Cache incorporates natural materials, with larch cladding that complements the surrounding landscape while providing durability. Strategic design elements, such as precisely proportioned openings and thoughtful use of light, increase the living experience.

A Home for Contemplation
Delordinaire Architects aim to create more than just functional dwellings. Their vision extends to fostering a reflective and mindful lifestyle. As the architects explain “Through our creations, we aim to offer more than a functional habitat. It is a way of living, contemplative moments suspended in time. The heart of our architectural approach is about creating spaces that “resonate”: encouraging mindfulness, connection, and sensitivity.”
