Renowned practice JDS Architects teams up with Tongi University and Mudi to design The Chongming Bicycle Park consisted of a Bike Museum, Visitors center and a multi-purpose hall.
From the Architects:
The Chongming Bicycle Park consists of a Bike Museum, a Visitor Center, and a Multi-purpose hall, creating an urban oasis in the vicinity of Shanghai.
In accordance with its position on the site and the program it accommodates, the Visitor Center must be seen as an entry landmark, acting not only as a symbol for the Bicycle Park, but in line with its function as main access and information point. The Visitor Center represents and at the same time characterizes the relationship between sport, technology, social awareness, recreation and the evolution of biking in a strong gesture.
The Bike museum will be the flagship of the park. It will function as a double helix. Bikes can be used for the ride downwards, on the exterior part of the helix. The Multi-purpose hall is seen as a hilly island.
