SIWA Clinic introduces a new approach to healthcare, combining advanced treatment for back pain with a design philosophy centered on patient experience. Spanning 1,100 square meters in Bilbao’s Deusto neighborhood, this clinic moves beyond conventional medical facilities, creating a space where science and human care come together. BAT Architecture, alongside UNB and SS4C, played a key role in shaping this project, reinforcing its expertise in designing healthcare environments that prioritize the needs of both patients and medical professionals.

A Collaborative Vision
The clinic brings together a team of neurosurgeons, osteopaths, traumatologists, physiotherapists, nurses, and Pilates specialists, working in unison to deliver precise diagnoses and treatment plans. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that each patient benefits from a comprehensive medical evaluation tailored to their specific needs.
BAT Architecture, acting as a strategic consultant, contributed to the clinic’s concept, ensuring the facility supports both efficient healthcare practices and a positive patient experience. The design reflects a shift away from the sterile, impersonal environments often found in medical centers, instead offering a setting that promotes comfort and engagement.

Architecture That Serves Its Users
Traditional medical spaces often prioritize function over user experience, resulting in cold, detached environments. SIWA Clinic challenges this by integrating architecture that adapts to the needs of both patients and healthcare providers. The layout promotes ease of movement while encouraging an atmosphere that feels welcoming rather than clinical.
By combining thoughtful design with advanced technology, the clinic supports patient well-being from the moment they step inside. Open spaces, natural materials, and intuitive layouts reduce stress and create an inviting setting. This approach ensures that the physical space contributes as much to healing as the treatments themselves.

A Space Designed for Interaction
At the core of the clinic lies the Agora, a spacious central area designed to function as a public square. This open, flexible space accommodates events, professional meetings, and collaborative activities, reinforcing a sense of connection among patients and medical professionals.
Within the Agora, the “360º Patient Briefing” area offers a unique approach to medical evaluation. This space allows specialists from different disciplines to conduct thorough, personalized assessments, ensuring a holistic approach to treatment. Nearby, glass-enclosed treatment pods provide privacy while maintaining a connection to the surrounding environment. These areas house advanced equipment, including Pilates Reformer machines and spinal traction devices, supporting a range of rehabilitation therapies.
Surrounding the Agora, consultation rooms and specialized areas support various medical procedures. The clinic includes an operating room for day surgeries, an infiltration room, and five recovery spaces, ensuring that all aspects of patient care are seamlessly integrated. Changing rooms and additional treatment spaces are positioned for efficiency, supporting the clinic’s workflow while maintaining a cohesive design.

Integrating Nature and Technology
Natural elements play a key role in SIWA Clinic’s design. Vegetation is incorporated throughout the facility, offering psychological benefits for both patients and staff. This approach helps to reduce stress while contributing to a more balanced environment.
Digital tools also improve the patient experience. Information screens and connected devices streamline communication, improving service times and ensuring interaction between patients and medical staff. Integrated with the clinic’s medical records system, these digital solutions optimize efficiency without compromising personalized care.

A Distinctive Identity
SIWA Clinic by BAT Architecture, establishes a strong visual identity through its use of materials and architectural elements. Textured surfaces and modular structures create a signature look that can be replicated in future locations. The thoughtful selection of colors and materials reinforces a sense of familiarity, ensuring that the clinic feels both functional and inviting.
Consultation rooms incorporate educational features, allowing healthcare professionals to engage with patients in a meaningful way. Screens and adaptable furniture create spaces where medical information can be clearly communicated, ensuring that patients fully understand their treatment plans.
