Located within the verdant landscapes of Valle de Bravo, Mexico, Copas by Pérez Palacios Arquitectos Asociados (PPAA) exemplifies a harmonious dialogue between architecture and nature. This project, completed in July 2024, reflects a respect for the natural environment, a hallmark of PPAA’s design philosophy. The house’s upper floor opens seamlessly to the treetops, fostering a direct connection with the surrounding forest and offering breathtaking views that evolve throughout the day.

The architecture of Copas thoughtfully adapts to the site’s natural topography. By embracing the slope rather than resisting it, the design minimizes excavation and environmental disruption. Public spaces are elevated above ground level, creating a series of platforms that encourage varied interactions with nature. These elevated areas serve as both functional and contemplative spaces, where residents can immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.

Privacy and tranquility are key elements of the first floor, which houses the bedrooms. This design approach ensures a serene retreat for rest, shielded from the more active upper levels. The ascent from the ground to the upper floors is akin to climbing a mountain, with each level revealing more expansive and stunning vistas, enhancing the experiential journey through the house.

Covering a built area of 964 square meters, Copas was completed in 2023 by a dedicated team including Pablo Pérez Palacios, Emilio Calvo, Miguel Vargas, Andrés Domínguez, Nancy Estévez, Sergio Delgado, and Adán García. The collaborative effort resulted in a design that not only respects but also celebrates the natural landscape, integrating it into the daily life of the inhabitants.

PPAA’s design ethos is clearly embodied in Copas, where every architectural decision is guided by an understanding and respect for the natural environment. This project is an example of the studio’s commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional but also connected to their surroundings, providing residents with a unique living experience that is both inspiring and harmonious.
