From the Architects:
Amidst newly planted olive orchards, on a steep hill in the Dry Creek Valley near Sonoma, California, this guest house has a strikingly strong presence. Looking out over a commanding view, the experience of the structure is along a great cascading stair bound on one side by an intricately formed concrete wall. Recesses and larger openings in the concrete wall form places for sliding doors and hardware, an entry door that is flush to the wall when fully opened, and a lower level window seat all providing another layer of detail, texture, and program. The house is organized on three levels: a bedroom, kitchen, and a living room, made in a reduced palette of materials including zinc, wood, and gray stained oak. Open glass corners and cantilevered windows peer over exterior walls giving the form a dynamic quality.
