The average person spends about one-third of their life sleeping. With such a significant portion of time dedicated to rest, it’s crucial to create a bedroom environment that promotes relaxation and rejuvenation. Interestingly, an article from Forbes found that in a survey of 2,000 participants, 73% of respondents said that they get better sleep in hotel rooms than they usually get at home. Although the reasons for better sleep varied, much of it came down to improved sleep surroundings compared to one’s personal bedroom.

Fortunately, there are ways to upgrade your bedroom and mimic the premium environment of a 5-star hotel. In this article, we’ll explore various furniture options to achieve a high-end, hotel-like bedroom for less, helping you transform your bedroom into a luxurious retreat without breaking the bank.

Opt for thrifted or antique pieces

Integrating antique furniture pieces into your bedroom decor can infuse character and sophistication without the hefty price tag. In fact, Real Simple highlights an industry trend report that found that customers have saved over $50 million on top furniture lines by purchasing furniture secondhand. For this, scour thrift stores, flea markets, and online marketplaces for unique finds like vintage dressers, ornate nightstands, or a beautifully crafted vanity. Mixing antique pieces with modern elements can make your space look more expensive, says designer Clara Ewart. Older furniture also tends to be more durable, so you don’t have to worry about flimsy furniture pieces disturbing your peace. Just make sure that you research vintage furniture values before antique-hunting, and beware of reproductions.

Go for a larger bed

A common mistake people make when furnishing their bedrooms, especially when they’re on the smaller side, is going for smaller furniture in an effort to maximize space. But according to interior design blogger Kate Watson-Smyth, tiny furniture in a tight space only makes a room feel smaller. Instead, Watson-Smyth suggests going for the largest mattress size your space can hold. For example, if your bedroom measures at least 120 square feet, that’s enough space for a California king bed set. The spaciousness of a Cali king bed adds a touch of luxury as well, providing ample space for comfort and relaxation. Look for sets with a soaring headboard like the upholstered Porto California King bedroom set by Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, which can create the illusion of a higher ceiling. This set also comes with two matching nightstands for a cohesive and stylish look.

Add statement lighting fixtures

Illuminate your bedroom with statement lighting fixtures that serve as both practical and decorative elements. As we discussed in our post , layering soft lighting is ideal for evoking a peaceful, inviting mood that will relax your mind and body. The best way to execute this is by scattering a few smaller lamps at different heights across the room. Choose chandeliers, pendant lights, or wall sconces with striking designs and luxurious finishes to add drama to your space. Place accent lighting, like the minimalist Sidnie lamp from Schoolhouse, on your nightstand to eliminate the need to get out of bed to turn off the lights. Any desk or vanity in your bedroom should have task lighting as well.

Create cozy nooks with plush seating

Bringing a plush armchair into your bedroom not only adds a touch of elegance but also provides a cozy spot for relaxation and reading. Opt for a chair with luxurious upholstery, such as velvet, boucle, or leather, to create a sense of opulence and comfort. The Billie White Boucle 35″ Swivel Barrel Accent Chair, for one, is a good option. Plus, the fabric is fully customizable so that you can ensure that it complements your bedroom’s overall look. Whether placed by a window for a warm reading nook or positioned next to a bedside table for added functionality, a plush armchair instantly elevates the ambiance of your space. You can look for budget-friendly options at furniture stores or online retailers and keep an eye out for sales and promotions to score a high-end look for less.

Achieving a high-end look for your bedroom doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag. By strategically selecting furniture and decor elements, you can transform your space into a relaxing oasis without spending a fortune. From investing in a California king bed set to incorporating antique pieces and plush armchairs, there are plenty of budget-friendly watts to elevate the aesthetic appeal of your bedroom. By prioritizing quality, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design, you can create a sanctuary that exudes sophistication and style, allowing you to rest and recharge in ultimate comfort and luxury.

  1. i love my bedroom very minimal! I don’t like distractions in a room where i am to sleep and relax in!

    • yeah same i don’t really like it very cluttered, my interior designer clients usually prefer leaving the decoration of the bedroom to them. But this also depends on the size of your apartment, we often forget that most of can not afford apartments where bedroom is a secluded room. This also brings different aspects of the design and you guys at archiscene did not go through all the ways we have a bedroom today within our own apartments. For many bedroom is also part of the living room.
