Collaborators Foster + Partners architects and YBGSNA practice create the project for the Edmond & Lily Safra Brain Science Building located at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. This ELSC four-story building features two wings surrounding an open courtyard, blending traditional, local architecture with cutting edge scientific capabilities.

The Jerusalem Brain Sciences Building will provide a state-of-the-art research and teaching facility for the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences. This Jerusalem-stone four-story building features two wings surrounding an open courtyard, blending traditional, local architecture with cutting edge scientific capabilities.
Public spaces will be located at ground level, with laboratories, offices and support facilities above. The floor plans are designed to allow maximum flexibility and to promote connections between the 28 different laboratories – the result is a sequence of delicately layered spaces, which gradually unfold as one travels through the building. Each floor will house labs from each of the five different research areas and will share social spaces, encouraging maximum interaction between disciplines. This unique arrangement will allow researchers to work together to unravel the causal relationships between genes, brain circuits, cognition and behavior.
Philanthropic partners in this project will be recognized through a unique artistic scheme to be developed in conjunction with the building design.
