Gervasoni has once again captivated audiences at the prestigious Salone del Mobile Milano 2024, marking its presence with an array of novelties for both indoor and outdoor settings. The company’s iconic Ghost collection, celebrating its 20th anniversary, takes center stage with an expansion that introduces new products while retaining the signature comfort and versatility that define it. Designed by Paola Navone, the new additions feature clean, defined geometries and an oversized housse, allowing for easy customization.
MILAN DESIGN WEEK
The exhibition space, named ‘Domus’ and designed by Concetta Giannangeli, draws inspiration from ancient Roman architecture, creating an integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. The Peristilium-inspired layout features lightweight wooden structures and linen drapes, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the Gervasoni universe. Transitioning between indoor and outdoor areas, the flooring choices emphasize the natural and material aspects of the spaces, further enhancing the overall experience.
Indoor collections by acclaimed designers Federica Biasi, Cristina Celestino, Paola Navone, and Gabriele and Oscar Buratti offer a glimpse into the brand’s commitment to innovation. From Biasi’s attention to detail in the Samet HIGH sofa to Celestino’s contemporary interpretation of comfort with the Plumeau armchair, each piece exudes elegance and functionality. The Yaku collection by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti celebrates the essence of wood with its minimalist design, offering a versatile solution for various domestic spaces.
In the outdoor arena, brand presents equally compelling offerings with collections designed by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, Federica Biasi, Nendo, and Francesco Meda. Eidos, meaning ‘form’ in Greek, introduces dining tables and chairs that combine essential forms with refined materials, while Hashi by Federica Biasi draws inspiration from oriental motifs, creating a dynamic dialogue between cultures. Nendo’s Kasane collection explores the concept of overlapping elements, resulting in sculptural tables and poufs with a tactile concrete texture.
Francesco Meda’s Mediterraneo collection epitomizes elegance with its Teak structures and upholstered seats, showcasing a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics. With its diverse range of indoor and outdoor offerings, Gervasoni continues to push the boundaries of design while staying true to its ethos of creating tailor-made comfort.
I’ve always respected Gervasoni for their commitment to design, but their latest showcase at Salone del Mobile Milano 2024 felt a bit underwhelming, to be honest. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Ghost collection with just a few tweaks here and there? It seems like they’re playing it safe instead of truly innovating. 🤷
The Domus space, while drawing on the cool ancient Roman vibes, didn’t quite merge the indoor and outdoor experiences as seamlessly as I’d hoped. It felt more like a nod to the past than a step into the future of integrated living spaces. And while the new pieces from designers like Federica Biasi and Cristina Celestino are elegant, they don’t break much new ground either…..for a brand that has a history of pushing boundaries, this year’s offerings seemed to stick too closely to their comfort zone. Gervasoni really could have taken this opportunity to surprise us with something bold and unexpected, especially on such a significant anniversary. Here’s hoping they shake things up next time!
