gpstudio, the luxury retail design consultancy, has just completed a major redesign of Hershesons flagship store on Conduit Street in Mayfair.
A favourite of celebrities, models and the press, Hershesons tasked gpstudio with creating a luxurious customer experience in a space which reflected Daniel and Luke Hershesons‘s high-end fashion credentials.
To ensure that their design enhanced the customer journey, gpstudio looked at the whole customer experience – from arrival and coat check, right through to the washrooms.
The salon has been completely re-envisioned, with a brand new look for the shop front, offices and treatment rooms. A high quality, yet simple palette of marble, brass, wood and polished plaster is used throughout; creating a modern, luxurious feel. This reflects Hershesons’ status as an industry leader and makes a bold statement about the brand. The brand embraces the fact that hairdressing is continuously evolving and, similarly, so is the company.
A black marble centrepiece sets the tone for the salon, producing a striking architectural feature. This forms half of the shop front façade, as well as incorporating a cash desk and a cloakroom. The insertion of a brass staircase in the atrium adds another focal point to the salon.
In a break with traditional salon design, the workstations have been moved away from the walls and transformed into a cantilevered, metal crafted workstation in the middle of the room. This spans across two floors, and creates a central spine more akin to an art gallery than a hair salon. The treatment rooms have been completely overhauled, with the use of wood and soft lighting giving a more relaxing and intimate customer experience.
Parquet wooden flooring on the ground floor adds warmth to the space, whereas marble gives the lower ground floor a more timeless feel. To focus on exquisite service, customers are greeted at a small discrete desk, similar to that of a maître-D in a restaurant, and reservations and bookings have been taken ‘back of house’.
gpstudio was the lead designer and worked alongside Office of Light, who created a floating lighting feature which flows throughout the whole store.
Gregor Jackson, partner at gpstudio, says, “It was a real honour to be given the opportunity to create a store that reflects a brand so synonymous with its design credentials. Hersheson are truly at the forefront of the fashion world, collaborating with Vogue and working on hair and beauty for shows at London Fashion Week, so they need salons that reflected this – but at the same time ensure that customer experience was paramount.”
Luke Hersheson from Hersheson says, “We wanted to create an experience which really brings our brand to life for customers visiting our London flagship store. We work with models, celebrities, and the press so it was important for gpstudio to create a salon which reflects these fashion forward credentials.”
