US based firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) had designed a New Federal Courthouse in Los Angeles. This massive project is estimated to cost $319 million and scheduled for completion in the summer of 2016. For more images and architects description continue after the jump:

Clark/SOM’s concept has a strong civic presence rooted in classic principles and incorporates state-of-the-art technology and sustainable features. This target LEED Platinum courthouse uniquely responds to its downtown location. The courthouse’s serrated façade is designed to achieve a north/south orientation that will maximize views while reducing solar heat gain by 47%. The design includes an innovative structural engineering concept that allows the cubic courthouse volume to appear to float over its stone base while being one of the Nation’s safest buildings relating to earthquakes and bomb threats. The plan optimizes the courts program and workflow and, ensures efficient operations and maintenance.
