This pedestrian bridge shaped to bring Miraflores and Barranco, two thriving districts of Lima together is created as a landscape jewel of Peru's capital. Design comes from the drawing board of the noted OOIIO architects. For more images and description read after the jump:
About the Project:
For OOIIO Architecture this is more than a basic bridge scheme; it is an ‘open-air building’. The design has been inspired by Peruvian minery, ‘Latin Special Day Objects’ such as piñatas, and spiked Inca jewellery. The result is a barbed wooden connection with triangular fronds reaching high into the air. These spikes will provide shading and rest spaces for users of the bridge. Plans are to use recycled timber in construction.
Once complete, the bridge will link the districts of Miraflores and Barranco. The former is a high-end region filled with retail outlets and colourful parks, its economy dominated by tourism. Barranco is a more bohemian district and is home to a large number of musicians, artists and designers.
It is hoped that the new Miraflores-Barranco Pedestrian Bridge will encourage visitors to Lima to journey between the two districts, enhancing the economy in either region.
Stretching across a depression in the landscape through which a busy road passes, the bridge will not only act as a simple intervention into the space but as a meeting point and social hub for local residents and tourists alike. There are also informal amphitheatres for buskers or amateur performers and a number of viewing platforms for those who wish to enjoy the landscape.
Of their concept OOIIO Architecture said: “This project is special because has the ability for catching everyone attraction and at the same time is a great platform to see everything from it. Is a project to watch and to be watched.”
